What I've come to value most is a peer who can do both — recognise the weight first, then, only if asked, offer the perspective. The sequence matters. Reversed, it collapses.

The line I draw: advice is welcome when I've asked for it. Recognition is welcome always. Most people get this backwards — they offer advice freely and withhold recognition because it feels too vulnerable.
